Meet Your Tomatis® Practitioner

I discovered The Tomatis® Method in 2016 when my son was diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder and it was used in conjunction with his occupational therapy sessions. Since then, I have studied the method extensively and successfully applied it to myself and family members. In the summer of 2024, I decided to have him complete another Tomatis® program to prepare him in starting a new school. However, I was unable to find a certified Tomatis® professional anywhere in the greater St. Louis area. So I decided to become one myself, and The Listening Lab was born!

As a Teacher’s Aide in an elementary school, I observe how listening difficulties impact children's well-being both in and out of the classroom.

The Tomatis® Method, which utilizes music and one’s own voice, retrains the ear and brain for better sound processing. Between the improved technology and top level training from those who worked directly with Dr. Tomatis, I now have even more in depth knowledge of the method and access to the best equipment and experts in this field. As a Level 2 practitioner of the Tomatis® Method, I am also part of a network of thousands of professionals in 75 countries. And I look forward to bringing this method to even more people in my area and beyond.

I have experience in a variety of roles in education including: parent volunteer coordinator, school Board member, Administrative and Admissions assistant at an elementary school, teacher’s aide and founding team member of a local private high school. Working at smaller schools has given me the unique opportunity to see and take on a variety of roles. I also successfully navigated the admissions process of preschool in New York city - no small feat! Therefore, I am well familiar with ins and outs of school operations and how challenging it can be to find the right one for your child.

And as a parent of a child who successfully underwent years of occupational therapy at a young age, I’m experienced and well versed in the language and practices of this profession. I am very comfortable speaking with other educators and therapists. As a parent and educator myself, I understand what they do and how important their work is for, children especially. I am not a certified a therapist or advocate of any one type of schooling. I’m simply a mother and an educator who knows that sometimes, you just need someone to listen.

I listen to understand.

My Mission

To help both parents and their children improve their listening abilities and overall well being - both in school and at home.

About Mary Clare

Young boy looking off into distance

I am both a parent and an educator. In my current role as a teacher’s aide in an elementary school, I have the opportunity to serve teachers and students in the classroom. While I may not be up front teaching, I am an extra set of ears and eyes in the classroom - watching and of course listening all day. I enjoy working with children one on one and in small groups.

I like to say that being a teacher’s aid is like teaching, for introverts!

My Interests Include:

  • natural approaches to health, wellness and fitness

  • pediatric occupational therapy

  • classical music

  • education, both in schools and home schooling

  • Art History (my major in college)

  • cross country skiing

  • traveling and spending time with my husband and two children

  • Reading, reading and reading!

All fueled by lots of prayer, and coffee.
